Volunteers
come in all shapes and sizes
The
SRRA uses volunteers
for all kinds of jobs - many are small short-term commitments and a few
are larger and a bit more long-term, but all volunteer commitments are
valued and appreciated. Please consider helping out in any
way you can.
The following are a few
example volunteer commitments we regularly have with the events we host:
- Water station - help
set up a few tables, pour water into small paper
cups, hand out cups to runners as they pass, cheer runners on as they
pass your water station, help clean up the water station after the
event
(commitment = short term or one time,
usually only a couple of hours
maximum). - Road
marshal - pick up a safety vest, go to your corner on the
race
course, direct traffic and runners (keep them clear of each other), pick
up road cones at the finish of
the event
(commitment = short term or one time, usually
only a couple of hours
maximum). - Event
setup and
clean up - set up a few tables, set up road
cones,
(commitment = short term or one time,
usually only a couple of hours
maximum). - Event
organizer -
coordinate all activities and volunteers for a fun run or timed event.
Marathon
Only Volunteer Positions
Race packages -
The week prior to the marathon race packages are stuffed with
information for all participants - pickup of packages requires
many volunteers to hand the packages and race bibs out
(commitment
= short term or one time,
usually only a couple of hours
maximum)- Race
course setup
- Early morning (5am) on race day a few hardy souls are required to set
up road cones and drop off tables and water at water stations
(commitment
= one time,
usually only a couple of hours
maximum - but it's an early start to the day) - Water
station volunteers - Early morning on race day (6:30am -
7:00am) volunteers go to their designated water station, set up their
tables and water containers and mix sport drink. They then
start pouring small glasses about half full in preparation for the many
runners that will come through their station. Water stations
in the first half of the course will be busier than the second half
because only the full marathon participants continue on to the second
half of the course. Water is held out for runners to take as
they pass through your station. Runners also appreciate the
cheering and positive comments that many water stations provide
(commitment
= one time,
usually only a couple of hours
maximum - but it gets busy at times) - Finish line - Volunteers clip
race chips from runners shoes, hand out warming
blankets to runners, mix sport drink, and help with cleanup
(commitment
= one time,
usually only a 3 or 4 hours
maximum) - Food tent - Unpack and hand out food to runners as they finish their event and help with cleanup
(commitment
= one time,
usually only a 3 or 4 hours
maximum) - Race site clean up
